Recall: Lower Hudson River Alert
Thursday, September 18 @ 09:39
The treated sewage discharge planned for tomorrow
(Friday) has been CANCELLED.
Please disregard the previously released public
advisory (follows):
Posted 9/18/08 9:39 AM:
The boating public should be alerted to the following information regarding a treated sewage discharge planned during maintenance on Friday, Sept. 19th. This alert appears here in reprinted form from a distribution by the Yonkers Paddling & Rowing Club:
Ken Jenkins, our local legislator on the County Board of Legislators has
sent our club the following press release from Westchester County
"The Westchester County Department of Health is notifying boaters and
marinas on the Hudson River that there will be a controlled discharge of several
million gallons of screened and chlorinated raw sewage into the Hudson River
between 1 AM and 5 AM on Friday, provided it does not rain.
The treated sewage bypass is needed so that a flange gasket on the North
Yonkers trunk sewer line can be replaced, thereby avoiding a potential major
sewage spill. The repairs are planned for a time when sewage flows through these
sewer pipes are lowest to minimize the discharge.
The flange gasket was last replaced in 2001.
As a precaution, boaters and people who use the waters from Tarrytown to the Bronx for recreational purposes should avoid direct contact with the water on Friday"
If anyone has any questions they can contact Caren Halbfinger, from the
Westchester County Health Dept.

Farewell Doug
Wednesday, July 16 @ 00:26
The flotilla wishes Doug Brusa fair winds and following seas as he shoves off on an exciting new assignment with Oregon State University as the Director of Development for the Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences. As part of the July 9th sendoff during the monthly flotilla meeting he received a laminated Division 06 Hudson River area of responsibility chart by which to remember us by once he gets settled in in Corvallis, OR. Doug has been a wonderful asset to our flotilla and will be missed. Best of luck, Doug and keep in touch.
Help the Auxiliary this summer
Monday, April 28 @ 10:19
Recreational boaters on the nation's waterways can do
their part in the fight against terrorism by being on
the lookout for and reporting suspicious behavior on
and around the water. Details of a new governemt
sponsored program, likened to a neighborhood watch,
are forthcoming and will be distributed in the
community and posted here when finalized. For
details on the original news report, see this
