The Division 6 Change of Watch was held at the RiverView restaurant in Hastings on Hudson on Sunday February 21st. The following is an excerpt of the days events provided by Joan Jennings, Public Affairs Officer, 1st Southern Division, Division 6:
YONKERS, NY: US CG Auxiliary Division 6, 1st Southern Region held their annual "Change of Watch" Ceremony at the River View in Yonkers, NY on Sunday, February 21st, 2010. The aptly named River View is also the new meeting place for Flotilla 6 – 8. The meeting commenced with a parade of colors, followed by the playing of the National Anthem led by Division Vice Commander Jonathon Romero, the Pledge of Allegiance led by James Dipelesi and an invocation by Art Spinner. Guest speaker Jim Pinto, Director of Downtown and Waterfront Development for the City of Yonkers presented a slide show on existing and planned projects for the Yonkers shoreline along the Hudson River. He presented a plaque from Yonkers Mayor Philip A. Amicone to lifelong Yonkers resident Art Spinner, Vice Commander of Flotilla 6-8, designating Sunday, February 21st, 2010 as “Art Spinner Day” in Yonkers.

The ceremony inaugurated the new Division 6 elected leaders and appointed staff officers for 2010. The oath of office was administered by Commander David Flaherty, USCG Sector NY to Lynn Glassman (Flotilla Commander 6-3), Phil Simone (6-4), Steve Schmidt (6-5), Annette Leder (6-6), Donald R. Elmendorf (6-7) and Barbara Karsten (6-8). Barbara Karsten was also “Auxiliarist of the Year” for her work in increasing active participants in her Flotilla 6-8 from 6 to 34 this past year 2009. Flotilla of the Year was 6-3. Other Awards given were to Ray Hitney for Public Education, Steve Schmidt for Vessel Examinations, to Kevin Hanley for Member Training, and Jim Dipelesi for Operations.

After remarks by IP Division Commander Kevin Hanley and Division Commander Betsy Blee, a silent auction was held, with proceeds going to support the work of the Division.
Thanks to the staff and owners of the River View, many of whom have recently joined the ranks of Flotilla 6-8.
